It is the onus of the included to include the excluded” is an extremely powerful statement. It means that it is the responsibility or obligation of those who are a part of society—and therefore included—to help include those who are left out and excluded.

The excluded often do not have access to the resources and opportunities that the included can access easily. They are frequently discriminated against and treated poorly by other members of society. It is the duty of the included, first, to stop thinking of themselves as superior to the excluded; second, to ensure that the excluded gain access to resources; and third, to make sure they are treated fairly and with dignity.

You might wonder why it is the responsibility of the included to help the excluded. This is because they are in a position to do so. They have the power to create better opportunities and to bring about meaningful change. They are the ones who can truly make a difference.

Every member of society should realize that they could just as easily have been in the position of the excluded. Recognizing this should inspire gratitude and empathy. Everyone should make an effort to help the excluded in some way or another. Even a small gesture, such as a smile, can make someone’s day better.

All it takes is a little effort from every member of society to improve the lives of others. So let us make a conscious effort to include the excluded.
