Breaking Barriers Featured in the Times of India

The renowned Times of India newspaper has featured the Breaking Barriers campaign, through expressing the story of Manav. Manav was reached out by the TOI and discussed about his experiences being bisexual. This is not the first time the campaign has been featured, however. In February 2024, the campaign was featured in the Washington Blade.

When Manav was 14, he was moody and defiant, with hormones in overdrive and his attitude on the rise. He declared himself bisexual viewing his behavior. He received online bullying and criticism due to his gender identity. In the article, TOI also explains that there is no concrete data to understand if students change their gender identity at an early age.

“It’s no longer a taboo subject at home, nor in school. I know many like me who felt safe and comfortable coming out to their friends and family at 14 or 15,” added Manav, who found solace in his school environment, at Tagore International School particularly through Breaking Barriers, a club and support group for the LGBTQ+ community.
